This was in a rustic setting at a 4H camp in Halsey, NE. There was a bit of "roughing it" at the camp, it has dormitory style cabins with shared bathrooms. But there was electricity and indoor plumbing so it really was not too bad.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-me2F5N9-9yo/WBy5TBIYQgI/AAAAAAAAIO8/X-z9n58VsOMx10_Kj8XIEJclKDxnIWMOACPcB/s1600/IMG_3460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-me2F5N9-9yo/WBy5TBIYQgI/AAAAAAAAIO8/X-z9n58VsOMx10_Kj8XIEJclKDxnIWMOACPcB/s320/IMG_3460.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wt_CbbLKQEY/WBy5TVo8kHI/AAAAAAAAIPA/OmE1W0FMRSkoGw5vnADfqfVK9GPyZ3sAwCPcB/s1600/IMG_3462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wt_CbbLKQEY/WBy5TVo8kHI/AAAAAAAAIPA/OmE1W0FMRSkoGw5vnADfqfVK9GPyZ3sAwCPcB/s320/IMG_3462.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The camp only had Wifi in the main building, and it was spotty and slow. It was a great thing to "unplug", as it really made me concentrate on my art making. After dinner, without the internet or TV, there wasn't much to do other than work on art, read, or socialize.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7JRFWwa913c/WBy5TtY8y6I/AAAAAAAAIPE/5qAlD3woZCMAeNQRjlJmKSe7r5JzU5-mgCPcB/s1600/IMG_3471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7JRFWwa913c/WBy5TtY8y6I/AAAAAAAAIPE/5qAlD3woZCMAeNQRjlJmKSe7r5JzU5-mgCPcB/s320/IMG_3471.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My workshop was with Vera Dickenson, but there were two other workshops available as well. Vera's workshop was listed as mixed media, but it was mainly acrylic painting. We used Yupo paper for some of our projects, which I had never used before.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dVFNF2y388c/WBy5U9z2aLI/AAAAAAAAIPU/CiEkIMqF5CAI4V-SrH4cHvrCTMmKGDX8gCPcB/s1600/IMG_3536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dVFNF2y388c/WBy5U9z2aLI/AAAAAAAAIPU/CiEkIMqF5CAI4V-SrH4cHvrCTMmKGDX8gCPcB/s320/IMG_3536.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGSc2GEqjDo/WBy5URTbXzI/AAAAAAAAIPM/XR38XN00hf0ZdvycGs8nZHxtOEDrJ9XogCPcB/s1600/IMG_3513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGSc2GEqjDo/WBy5URTbXzI/AAAAAAAAIPM/XR38XN00hf0ZdvycGs8nZHxtOEDrJ9XogCPcB/s320/IMG_3513.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For one project, we used gel medium and stencils to create a textured surface. I loved this, and loved how my project turned out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ndWHFmKn8VI/WBy5caIIujI/AAAAAAAAIPg/V_tJ0Um__yAR_cKDPEpNLwZPCZ7EhctwwCPcB/s1600/clouds%2Bcropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ndWHFmKn8VI/WBy5caIIujI/AAAAAAAAIPg/V_tJ0Um__yAR_cKDPEpNLwZPCZ7EhctwwCPcB/s400/clouds%2Bcropped.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Closeup:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iPZ-aK-fHzo/WBy5cmWdQGI/AAAAAAAAIPk/Dw-vaiJOxaooXyoiCRboK-96cwFxmgWCgCPcB/s1600/clouds%2Bdetail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iPZ-aK-fHzo/WBy5cmWdQGI/AAAAAAAAIPk/Dw-vaiJOxaooXyoiCRboK-96cwFxmgWCgCPcB/s320/clouds%2Bdetail.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
On another project, we used black gesso, acrylic ink, and transparent glazes. I really struggled with this piece. I should not have used a person (actually a mannequin) as my photo reference as I haven't drawn people lately and it looks very stiff. Also, my glazes weren't transparent enough, so I lost some of the soft feeling that this technique can provide.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zgWMaTXh9Ao/WBy5cy4v5XI/AAAAAAAAIPo/xKvRlAsOO5Q-2H9E0l7VgfyTn6Ag4rkHgCPcB/s1600/mannequin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zgWMaTXh9Ao/WBy5cy4v5XI/AAAAAAAAIPo/xKvRlAsOO5Q-2H9E0l7VgfyTn6Ag4rkHgCPcB/s320/mannequin.jpg" width="241" /></a></div>
I actually liked my sketch better. It accidentally got wet, which actually made it more interesting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MTCxkvSK_Rg/WBy5dAgxq1I/AAAAAAAAIPs/0wwjarW9thwyMJWK8jGggqVLsxOmbAkqgCPcB/s1600/mannequin%2Bsketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MTCxkvSK_Rg/WBy5dAgxq1I/AAAAAAAAIPs/0wwjarW9thwyMJWK8jGggqVLsxOmbAkqgCPcB/s320/mannequin%2Bsketch.jpg" width="210" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is Vera's demo example she created (so you can what I was going for with this technique).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XcXZ3mmfxAI/WBy5UjWT7lI/AAAAAAAAIPQ/nalpcD-czu8IOQP-8cwpmUpno6483WxygCPcB/s1600/IMG_3518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XcXZ3mmfxAI/WBy5UjWT7lI/AAAAAAAAIPQ/nalpcD-czu8IOQP-8cwpmUpno6483WxygCPcB/s320/IMG_3518.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I started some other pieces, but nothing else is finished. <br />
<br />
I did love the textured background technique and have come up with modifications to try. I am definitely very motivated to work on these.<br />
<br />
I never have liked working on canvas much. I did bring some canvases and canvas board to work on. By the end of the workshop, I decided not to use these ever again. I hate the texture, it really drives me nuts. I am either going to work on paper, MDF panels, or cradled boards from now on. It's nice to make a final decision on this, as I been trying to make friends with canvas for years and it just never works for me. I will mount works that are on paper onto canvas (that is on stretchers), as I like the way it looks instead of framing them under glass.<br />
<br />
The workshop was definitely a great experience. I focused on art making for three days in a row, with no outside distractions, and no other responsibilities (no meal cooking, no household chores getting in the way). The biggest negative is that I slept horribly most nights, as the beds were hard and had rubber sheets on them, the bathroom door squeaked loudly, and the bathroom light shone into my room (around the edges of the door). I will definitely take some additional items next year to help sleep better (egg crate mattress topper, eye mask, and sleeping pills).<br />

Not a quilt with a cow on it, an art quilt shaped like a cow. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms4kwAd-wwI/V88ZECKes5I/AAAAAAAAIK8/pTuwNogqwUUjo3lTN6V0qfExRvGKENDMACPcB/s1600/George.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms4kwAd-wwI/V88ZECKes5I/AAAAAAAAIK8/pTuwNogqwUUjo3lTN6V0qfExRvGKENDMACPcB/s320/George.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Meet George. She is roughly 5'6" high and 6'6" wide.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
George is raw edge pieced, with fused and stitched circles.<br />
<br />
She is mainly recycled fabrics. Her rump is a curtain, you can see the metal grommets for the curtain rod. It was a patterned white-on-white fabric, but I painted the diamond shapes with acrylic paint. In order to get the paints to blend, without bleeding into the unpainted sections, I mixed my acrylic paint with clear aloe vera gel. Below is a picture of what would happen if I had used water instead. The aloe vera worked very well. I did not add anything else to the acrylic paint as it is an art quilt and cannot be machine washed. I did iron the painted sections to help "set" the paint, with a teflon sheet between my iron and the fabric. It did "smoke" a bit and smelled a bit funny, so I turned down the heat a bit to medium high. I do not think this was toxic, but don't take my word on it. I should have put on my respirator.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oluXuSSNvOU/V88dPHZ52OI/AAAAAAAAILo/GtHp_FLjFWUtElpCDlO5rb6jPgpiQ59fQCPcB/s1600/paint%2Bbleeed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="165" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oluXuSSNvOU/V88dPHZ52OI/AAAAAAAAILo/GtHp_FLjFWUtElpCDlO5rb6jPgpiQ59fQCPcB/s320/paint%2Bbleeed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This fabric (below) was a purchased solid white twill. I stamped the fabric using a washer. You can see the post about stamping this fabric<a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2016/03/fabric-stamped-with-washers.html" target="_blank"> here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mh3tU2-y1qY/Vt2-xTDczAI/AAAAAAAAHx0/Lh4p6OFl5FQO0Ec8VWEknO68JsuKnuiAACPcB/s1600/DSC02522.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mh3tU2-y1qY/Vt2-xTDczAI/AAAAAAAAHx0/Lh4p6OFl5FQO0Ec8VWEknO68JsuKnuiAACPcB/s320/DSC02522.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The top white section is a white cotton tablecloth. The colored belly section is a puddle painted piece of polyester sheer curtain. My blogs on puddle painting can be seen <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2013/11/puddle-painting-with-setacolor.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2015/08/puddle-painting-fabric.html" target="_blank">here</a> (not the same fabric, just the technique).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mXHwtJh8Otk/V88cyRs6m7I/AAAAAAAAILo/lwQdbnb8mO0XSIFQwuPLhEmQbLDvqAotwCPcB/s1600/DSC02662.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mXHwtJh8Otk/V88cyRs6m7I/AAAAAAAAILo/lwQdbnb8mO0XSIFQwuPLhEmQbLDvqAotwCPcB/s320/DSC02662.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric that looks like small dots (shown below in the middle and used for some of the legs) is a textured curtain. It was white and I lightly rubbed Shiva paintsticks over it, which only painted the raised parts on the fabric. After letting the fabric sit for a few days, I ironed it to set the colors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LeK0ZQis61U/V88j4sxe7uI/AAAAAAAAIL0/-0Hba371ztgVYksk68GPp0LjulcGIEcwQCPcB/s1600/cow%2Bfabrics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LeK0ZQis61U/V88j4sxe7uI/AAAAAAAAIL0/-0Hba371ztgVYksk68GPp0LjulcGIEcwQCPcB/s320/cow%2Bfabrics.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did have a full size paper "pattern" of the overall cow, but just used that to figure out my piecing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LCuWxKNfIc8/V88kFvPRjXI/AAAAAAAAIL4/JiZs-WeAMYMWja4kI15pFSAkCZBL30rWACPcB/s1600/cow%2Bwith%2Bpattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LCuWxKNfIc8/V88kFvPRjXI/AAAAAAAAIL4/JiZs-WeAMYMWja4kI15pFSAkCZBL30rWACPcB/s320/cow%2Bwith%2Bpattern.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once all the pieces were sewn together, I pinned it to some batting and free motion stitched it, outline stitching the patterns on the fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_RFHxVJjLHc/V88a13CmWmI/AAAAAAAAILo/eHz671-47nUNWcpD-2mm8LZfiM0KgBAtACPcB/s1600/cow%2Bw%2Bbatting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_RFHxVJjLHc/V88a13CmWmI/AAAAAAAAILo/eHz671-47nUNWcpD-2mm8LZfiM0KgBAtACPcB/s320/cow%2Bw%2Bbatting.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JZfP4pt9kqo/V88a1YpQnII/AAAAAAAAILo/XNvP1AiIRB8GYF4cRYTfzeUBFGzOLAczQCPcB/s1600/DSC02704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JZfP4pt9kqo/V88a1YpQnII/AAAAAAAAILo/XNvP1AiIRB8GYF4cRYTfzeUBFGzOLAczQCPcB/s320/DSC02704.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I came into textile arts from a mixed media background. I will be the first to say that I will not pass any tests regarding having a beautiful back side on my quilt. I did not want to have a binding around the outside edge, and did not want to have to turn down the curved edge of the fabric on the back side, so I used the "pillowcase method" which involves laying the backer fabric face to face with the quilt top, sewing all around but leaving an opening in one section, in order to turn it right-side out. Before turning it, I did add some iron-on stiff interfacing at her head and rump so she would not sag when she was hung. I then turned the quilt right-side out and sewed 1/4" from the outside edge, all around the quilt. This is really too big a quilt to use the pillowcase method, and there are some wrinkles and folds in the backing fabric. But she is a beauty on the front side!<br />

He did have quite a few pieces with cherubs on them, which seemed very Italian to me, but not really my taste. It seems like making glass cherubs would be very difficult.<br />

<br />
This was a nice show as you could get really close to the pieces and see all the detail. The art center used to be a house, so it is an intimate setting for the work to be shown. The show closes on October 15th.Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-92157285631672388712016-09-06T14:20:00.004-05:002016-09-06T14:42:59.343-05:00Sunprinting on fabricI finally made time to do some sun printing last weekend. I wanted to do some large pieces of fabric, which was a challenge. I also wanted to do multiple layers of paint to get some depth to the patterns.<br />
<br />
Here is my setup. I lay my fabric out on an insulation board (from the hardware store). My board is about 4' long x 3' wide. My fabric is 6' long x 3-1/2' wide. For the first layer I did half the fabric and after it was painted and dried, I did the other half.<br />
<br />
I find it easier to lay dry fabric on the board and wet it with a spray bottle, than to dampen the fabric first. I need to try to get the fabric as smooth as possible and it is much easier doing it section by section with a spray bottle. The fabric was pre-washed and dried in the dryer. I am using 100% cotton sheet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SEjuX6AqPbk/V8S0TkPrESI/AAAAAAAAIKs/wbCt15JUle8pSieDwSQbgSLNbG6QHhcMQCPcB/s1600/DSC01546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SEjuX6AqPbk/V8S0TkPrESI/AAAAAAAAIKs/wbCt15JUle8pSieDwSQbgSLNbG6QHhcMQCPcB/s320/DSC01546.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are my Setacolor paints. I keep them in these plastic containers with screw-top lids. I water them down about 50/50 (half paint/half water), screw the lid on and shake it. Make sure the lid is on tight. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zeDr6ILx1f0/V8S0ULmBp1I/AAAAAAAAIKs/BUOW6ZJ0kC8fXx-E3-eb6ygbdrWv2Z-RQCPcB/s1600/DSC01547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zeDr6ILx1f0/V8S0ULmBp1I/AAAAAAAAIKs/BUOW6ZJ0kC8fXx-E3-eb6ygbdrWv2Z-RQCPcB/s320/DSC01547.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a collection of lace, doilies, stencils, etc to sun print with. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_YODYpT3XNI/V8S0UZPmnfI/AAAAAAAAIKw/XmKnx4VPxq4MkfljMDEIeHQ2Tx3_Ig9EQCPcB/s1600/DSC01548.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_YODYpT3XNI/V8S0UZPmnfI/AAAAAAAAIKw/XmKnx4VPxq4MkfljMDEIeHQ2Tx3_Ig9EQCPcB/s320/DSC01548.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For this piece I layered two pieces of fabric. The bottom layer usually is more muted than the top, after they have been painted and dried. I often do this as it's like getting two pieces for the work of one.<br />
<br />
For this first layer, I used two yellows and an orange. I used lace and lace doilies to sun print. They were very soft sun prints, due to the light paint colors.<br />
<br />
This is after doing both sections of fabric, size is roughly 6' x 3-1/2'.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IK7dmWWefO0/V8St7XRQLGI/AAAAAAAAIJo/4sPFnoMggmEXkDmPpwG1qj2WWmXcAHk7QCPcB/s1600/1st%2Blayer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IK7dmWWefO0/V8St7XRQLGI/AAAAAAAAIJo/4sPFnoMggmEXkDmPpwG1qj2WWmXcAHk7QCPcB/s320/1st%2Blayer.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is a close-up of a doily print.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RSTJn4nT5f4/V8St0vP48kI/AAAAAAAAIJo/h0DJZquQ82kTZplx_1-JYgcuWR9QLJBWACPcB/s1600/DSC01575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RSTJn4nT5f4/V8St0vP48kI/AAAAAAAAIJo/h0DJZquQ82kTZplx_1-JYgcuWR9QLJBWACPcB/s320/DSC01575.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the second layer, I painted on red, more orange, and fuchsia. I used stencils and plastic doilies with this layer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6nEhNYrTQFo/V8St7q0YKjI/AAAAAAAAIJo/jpYk0-mgU8091EQml0dVgmDO1Js_ykNcwCPcB/s1600/2nd%2Blayer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="154" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6nEhNYrTQFo/V8St7q0YKjI/AAAAAAAAIJo/jpYk0-mgU8091EQml0dVgmDO1Js_ykNcwCPcB/s320/2nd%2Blayer.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to soften up the color transitions, so for the third layer, I did what I call Puddle Painting. I pour multiple paint colors onto a plastic lid (from a storage container) and smush my wrinkled up damp fabric into the paint. I will squeeze the fabric a little, unwrinkle it, then ball it up again and smush it into the paint again. I usually only have to do this twice to get good coverage on most of the fabric. I don't want to completely cover up the previous layer. I recommend wearing gloves. I puddle painted the entire fabric and had it span two different boards (since the fabric is longer than the boards). You can see my blog post demonstrating puddle painting <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2013/11/puddle-painting-with-setacolor.html" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
<br />
Here is the final piece, ironed. I think it's hard to tell how big the fabric is in these pictures. The round stencils are about 12" to give you a sense of scale.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Close up of the final piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FSRJJ_1Y5f4/V8St16dmZwI/AAAAAAAAIJo/gcRO7iLzAas6oNM5JfVmjQdhozBi299GQCPcB/s1600/DSC01664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FSRJJ_1Y5f4/V8St16dmZwI/AAAAAAAAIJo/gcRO7iLzAas6oNM5JfVmjQdhozBi299GQCPcB/s320/DSC01664.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
As I said above, I put a second piece of fabric underneath when I painted the first layer. The colors were a muted yellow and orange on this bottom piece. I just added one more layer of paint to it, to create a more multi-colored piece. I used the puddle painting technique and used primary colors, cobalt blue, red, and yellow. I also included some fuchsia and some opaque turquoise. Setacolor opaque colors will not sun print, but I like this turquoise color and it adds some pop. <br />
<br />
Here is the final piece and I think it is delicious.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i3kJ5aTjfvY/V8SvKBEOACI/AAAAAAAAIJY/DAxZpUGvzlgYvpz5b5NMSwgWklrYpTmMwCPcB/s1600/multi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="165" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i3kJ5aTjfvY/V8SvKBEOACI/AAAAAAAAIJY/DAxZpUGvzlgYvpz5b5NMSwgWklrYpTmMwCPcB/s320/multi.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
I also like the back side, the colors and patterns are more subtle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I think I will be combining some of the front and some of the back in my project.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
But I'm not done sun printing.<br />
<br />
I did a similar orange and yellow first layer on a smaller piece of fabric. This piece is about 2' x 3'. I layered a lot of smaller stencils on this piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NZF1UAa0dX0/V8S0UheaRKI/AAAAAAAAIKQ/xXdZrPENHJwUDi8w-lAbR7A7OmiEHCt4ACPcB/s1600/DSC01549.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NZF1UAa0dX0/V8S0UheaRKI/AAAAAAAAIKQ/xXdZrPENHJwUDi8w-lAbR7A7OmiEHCt4ACPcB/s320/DSC01549.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also did a narrow band of fabric that I put lace on top of.<br />
<br />
Both these have a top and bottom layer of fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1HuaPjHL8-Q/V8S0WOfLEBI/AAAAAAAAIKg/qrjGmrdMwlctdQtc1fiB-V9ZYYDEdXgJwCPcB/s1600/small%2Bsunprint%2Bwith%2Bstencils.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1HuaPjHL8-Q/V8S0WOfLEBI/AAAAAAAAIKg/qrjGmrdMwlctdQtc1fiB-V9ZYYDEdXgJwCPcB/s320/small%2Bsunprint%2Bwith%2Bstencils.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the top layer, after sun printing. I left this piece as is and did not print over it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J29nFzXunfI/V8S0VQfn_3I/AAAAAAAAIKY/qkFNuiBxHlAj94_i_5dH928j_iY5qrCrwCPcB/s1600/Top%2Bsmall%2Bsunprint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J29nFzXunfI/V8S0VQfn_3I/AAAAAAAAIKY/qkFNuiBxHlAj94_i_5dH928j_iY5qrCrwCPcB/s320/Top%2Bsmall%2Bsunprint.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the bottom layer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1cgZhwNq72jt-vWfmLLjmbjFUQJSJkH_Un8RYO8bJ7bggu_ClXqLeGPS-3B9Digq-nxeS8sOdhP-8cc_3BG61Zmkxh_WzHFE-Y54KcdbtT4Vibvvi8eP9Ugn08IgAVId3843nSpjd6DM/s1600/bottom+small+sunprint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1cgZhwNq72jt-vWfmLLjmbjFUQJSJkH_Un8RYO8bJ7bggu_ClXqLeGPS-3B9Digq-nxeS8sOdhP-8cc_3BG61Zmkxh_WzHFE-Y54KcdbtT4Vibvvi8eP9Ugn08IgAVId3843nSpjd6DM/s320/bottom+small+sunprint.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The bottom layer I printed over using ultramarine blue and more stencils. I do not like the orange and dark blue contrast. I am not sure what I will do with this piece. Maybe another layer?The area to the right where it was folded up it actually quite interesting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eQcx_Eaa2VI/V8St5kHV2mI/AAAAAAAAIJo/g4O94JgmjeQScsR8vQ7XXCtHXEqUYLUgwCPcB/s1600/small%2Bsunprint%2Bwith%2Bstencils%2Bblue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eQcx_Eaa2VI/V8St5kHV2mI/AAAAAAAAIJo/g4O94JgmjeQScsR8vQ7XXCtHXEqUYLUgwCPcB/s320/small%2Bsunprint%2Bwith%2Bstencils%2Bblue.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the narrow band, I cut it in half and overprinted one of them with red and fuchsia, with stencils. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OygXCuJ76g4/V8St5yYg5DI/AAAAAAAAIJo/faQSror2x0IMY-RUIv7sBt5yAs0spYQwwCPcB/s1600/narrow%2Bbands.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="124" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OygXCuJ76g4/V8St5yYg5DI/AAAAAAAAIJo/faQSror2x0IMY-RUIv7sBt5yAs0spYQwwCPcB/s320/narrow%2Bbands.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Close-up. The dark yellow section does have the lace pattern printed on it, it is just hard to see in these pictures. As you can see, the section I over-painted with red and fuschia is quite different depending on the color of the underlayer. The part that looks orange was the darker yellow color like the piece above it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U9jWs2lWTow/V8St2TlqCGI/AAAAAAAAIJo/0I3MJxBEHNcVkypQGtmnMKKxkBt-J4c5ACPcB/s1600/DSC01680.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U9jWs2lWTow/V8St2TlqCGI/AAAAAAAAIJo/0I3MJxBEHNcVkypQGtmnMKKxkBt-J4c5ACPcB/s320/DSC01680.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the lace and doilies I sun printed with. I did paint them some more after printing.<br />

I also painted some cheesecloth, a Japanese inspired 60's fabric, and polyester dress lining. There is a certain kind of polyester that prints the wrinkles in the fabric really well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-afqxutYdezA/V8St2zsJJKI/AAAAAAAAIJo/6y2ZEx9Wl1gHxcV6Sbk5R7KzDZ49--iqQCPcB/s1600/DSC01682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-afqxutYdezA/V8St2zsJJKI/AAAAAAAAIJo/6y2ZEx9Wl1gHxcV6Sbk5R7KzDZ49--iqQCPcB/s320/DSC01682.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
More cheesecloth and the Japanese inspired 60's fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I started the large fabric pieces, which were cotton sheets, with the sewn edges still on. They were preventing the fabric from being really flat on the boards, so I cut them off after applying the paint. I will be keeping them to incorporate in my project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A2aRZC2hoeM/V8SvJvUDq2I/AAAAAAAAIJU/i5fw-BbZ0-U0Wh-1Ij6eedZFbpQ4ejkwgCPcB/s1600/DSC01674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A2aRZC2hoeM/V8SvJvUDq2I/AAAAAAAAIJU/i5fw-BbZ0-U0Wh-1Ij6eedZFbpQ4ejkwgCPcB/s320/DSC01674.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But wait, there's more. When I have my sun printing supplies out, I start looking for things to paint. I made some large fabric collage pieces previously, and decided to sun print a few. These were puddle painted. This is a big one, roughly 3' x3'. I used a few stencils on it as well (circles and plastic doilies).<br />
<br />
Before: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xE-QnlGs89E/Vem3CCp2AtI/AAAAAAAAHe4/6QxctrWNEAwo6ke4shax1ctaqazpqcORgCPcB/s1600/big2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xE-QnlGs89E/Vem3CCp2AtI/AAAAAAAAHe4/6QxctrWNEAwo6ke4shax1ctaqazpqcORgCPcB/s320/big2.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
After:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jpRehvAeHos/V8Svdmr3yUI/AAAAAAAAIJk/kG4EvYa7kpQBg7yIGRG-Ts4q7eYhaQpEQCPcB/s1600/big%2Bpuddle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jpRehvAeHos/V8Svdmr3yUI/AAAAAAAAIJk/kG4EvYa7kpQBg7yIGRG-Ts4q7eYhaQpEQCPcB/s320/big%2Bpuddle.jpg" width="290" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
This one is 12" x 12". I dripped a little opaque turquoise on afterwards. Puddle painted with no sun printing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LKVUOSIPUF8/V8St7PMAfVI/AAAAAAAAIJo/eZBS_cwk4X8WdepuNkHMRx0dJ-1KTcIvgCPcB/s1600/puddle%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LKVUOSIPUF8/V8St7PMAfVI/AAAAAAAAIJo/eZBS_cwk4X8WdepuNkHMRx0dJ-1KTcIvgCPcB/s320/puddle%2B2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This one is 12" x12". I think I may work on leaving more white on future pieces. Puddle painted with no sun printing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lqm5dQahRNw/V8St6bSxhfI/AAAAAAAAIJo/dqW5ZsBWoT8_sN5xCuUa16B4SJXxyr9EQCPcB/s1600/small%2Bpuddle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lqm5dQahRNw/V8St6bSxhfI/AAAAAAAAIJo/dqW5ZsBWoT8_sN5xCuUa16B4SJXxyr9EQCPcB/s320/small%2Bpuddle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And I just thought I'd add a few pictures of flowers from my yard. The back yard is more weeds than grass, but I do have these lovelies.<br />

We did not attend any of the talks, but enjoyed seeing the lavender growing and visiting their shop. I may have bought a few things. Since Annette was driving, I took some pictures of the scenery along the way.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aaLP7GXb_5g/V3avdCW-b7I/AAAAAAAAICk/CNz6eOzBfIUECdu6OWI8j7gZsat0tAg9ACKgB/s1600/DSC02949.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aaLP7GXb_5g/V3avdCW-b7I/AAAAAAAAICk/CNz6eOzBfIUECdu6OWI8j7gZsat0tAg9ACKgB/s320/DSC02949.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
Surprisingly, there were quite a few artists I had not heard of.<br />
<br />
The show was excellent.<br />

My friend is a wonderful photographer and a member of this group, so I tagged along. It had been a long hot day at the art fair, and my feet were tired, but by the end of the night I was so happy with my photos - it was totally worth it! <br />
<br />
I typically just use my camera on the standard setting so it was fun to try out some of the manual settings and it really did provide better and more interesting photographs. I did use a tripod for most of the night shots.<br />
<br />
The group went to three spots. The first spot was at Sloan's Lake. I didn't know what I was doing with the manual settings and my camera does not have much of a zoom, it's 18-55mm. So all my photos from Sloan's Lake are pretty much black.<br />
<br />
Our next stop was on Zuni, near one of the I-25 entrance ramps. We were here for quite some time so I was able to play with my camera settings. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mdBO7Hw9v4I/V2hhcBfP4-I/AAAAAAAAIBA/Ghr6dBJcD2Y0vefdEFScEjOSlALI_qmWQCKgB/s1600/skyline.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mdBO7Hw9v4I/V2hhcBfP4-I/AAAAAAAAIBA/Ghr6dBJcD2Y0vefdEFScEjOSlALI_qmWQCKgB/s640/skyline.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZMKbFjHcLQ/V2gLgR9HXbI/AAAAAAAAH70/5RSveh_wZ5I4zIqsjkGm04SgdcA7l5D2QCKgB/s1600/DSC02745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZMKbFjHcLQ/V2gLgR9HXbI/AAAAAAAAH70/5RSveh_wZ5I4zIqsjkGm04SgdcA7l5D2QCKgB/s400/DSC02745.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You can see how the car lights became long streaks due to changing the settings.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qIZafocOoY4/V2hhcnys3UI/AAAAAAAAIBA/G6ASd9VoyS4is9cHIM8-UTlGN3lcMNuywCKgB/s1600/skyline1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qIZafocOoY4/V2hhcnys3UI/AAAAAAAAIBA/G6ASd9VoyS4is9cHIM8-UTlGN3lcMNuywCKgB/s400/skyline1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then we moved to a bridge that goes across I-25, there was wire fencing that often got in the way of taking photos. Most of mine had parts of the fencing showing, but here are a couple that turned out great. I loved this location and hope to go back next time I am in Denver. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lhqkFzENUJk/V2gMPjCi6UI/AAAAAAAAH8Q/hQCqQZzN5yU-bk4lbAhWlhMGD7mZqH9LQCKgB/s1600/DSC02778.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lhqkFzENUJk/V2gMPjCi6UI/AAAAAAAAH8Q/hQCqQZzN5yU-bk4lbAhWlhMGD7mZqH9LQCKgB/s640/DSC02778.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ftdUw94DWuQ/V2hhc7N-fBI/AAAAAAAAIBA/Ueicf_E3lFs_FpOfUrKk4-wwpp9E5uu1ACKgB/s1600/skyline2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ftdUw94DWuQ/V2hhc7N-fBI/AAAAAAAAIBA/Ueicf_E3lFs_FpOfUrKk4-wwpp9E5uu1ACKgB/s640/skyline2.jpg" width="384" /></a></div>
I really didn't want to leave, but it started raining. I had three people holding umbrellas over me so I could take a few more shots.<br />
<br />
I want to do an art piece of the Denver skyline so I kept taking pictures throughout the week. On Monday night, we were headed to the Tivoli to have a beer at their new bar. A giant rainbow showed up as we were parking, but by the time we got to the top of the parking garage for an unobstructed view, it was gone (no tripod for these).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ogjyx_LKQvk/V2gMoGvNDaI/AAAAAAAAH8c/Pj_wA4elTl4d6mzFFjZII4aB247zoTH1ACKgB/s1600/DSC02823.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ogjyx_LKQvk/V2gMoGvNDaI/AAAAAAAAH8c/Pj_wA4elTl4d6mzFFjZII4aB247zoTH1ACKgB/s320/DSC02823.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Here's a photo from the Tivoli, just using my "hand-held twilight" setting on my camera, since I didn't have my tripod. It takes three photos very quickly, then merges them into one. I like how the lights outline the trees at the bottom of the buildings.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kCo9DVuzILo/V2gNIcQxtBI/AAAAAAAAH8g/y-VfAGq7pPYSWcRtv7HXYa6LM-8XVdbLgCKgB/s1600/DSC02866.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kCo9DVuzILo/V2gNIcQxtBI/AAAAAAAAH8g/y-VfAGq7pPYSWcRtv7HXYa6LM-8XVdbLgCKgB/s400/DSC02866.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This one is from the Denver Art Museum later in the week. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I probably have enough photos for my project, but that won't stop me from being snap-happy.<br />

I was working hard to have new pieces for the show, and so my blog was largely ignored for the last month. Also, I was working on a large art quilt and did not want to post the progress, but wait until it was finished.<br />
<br />
I went to Denver the weekend before last and stayed for over a week. It was a blast, I had so much fun at the art fair, with my friends, doing things around town, seeing a concert at Red Rocks, and going to Denver ComicCon. I feel like I stuffed a month worth of things-to-do into one week. And Denver had a lot going on.<br />
<br />
I am going to do a couple posts of things I did, places I went, etc. I am going to start with the Summer Art Market.<br />
<br />
For the last year or so, I've been doing cow gelli prints and have kind of been cow obsessed. This year I decided I wanted to make a cow art quilt. Shaped like a cow. Big like a cow. I started it in January and finished it the day before the show. Here is a picture of George in my tent at the show. I will do a nicer picture later, after I iron some black fabric to use as a background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajyO1Yc_7ck/V2hhfx9UnkI/AAAAAAAAIBA/3CxxK7caKls8pA4sb2L2Gapg_Wnmedl8QCKgB/s1600/George.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajyO1Yc_7ck/V2hhfx9UnkI/AAAAAAAAIBA/3CxxK7caKls8pA4sb2L2Gapg_Wnmedl8QCKgB/s320/George.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a picture of George and I, so you can see how big she is.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TJtFIp6NXeU/V2hhgtqydEI/AAAAAAAAIBA/evdUtoe0VHI1_OtPJuaQC1H2xPbavq2XQCKgB/s1600/GeorgeandI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TJtFIp6NXeU/V2hhgtqydEI/AAAAAAAAIBA/evdUtoe0VHI1_OtPJuaQC1H2xPbavq2XQCKgB/s320/GeorgeandI.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Why is she named George? I love my cow quilt and I was reminded of the old Bugs Bunny cartoon where Daffy Duck meets the Abominable snowman, and the snowman scoops him up and says, I will call him George, and I will hug him, and pet him and squeeze him. That is the way I feel about by cow quilt. I will do a separate post, probably next week, of all the fabric and techniques I used to create it. I have at least three other big cows I would like to make.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here is the other side of my booth. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Here is a street shot of the show. I had a fabulous time, met a lot of people, and sold some artwork. Win, win, win.<br />

My friend Laura and I spent most of Saturday gelli printing. You don't have to twist my arm too hard to get me to gelli print.<br />

I forgot to take pictures of any of her prints. <br />
<br />
I had started a bunch of backgrounds previously to use with my new Denver skyline stencil. I found the results pretty disappointing. The skyline looked a bit static and uninteresting. Often the print looked smudged, which doesn't work well for buildings. Also, the black wasn't a solid black, so the print just didn't look good to me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GMvKr-wvURU/VyeGLg6OmFI/AAAAAAAAH4I/6UYg-VNhobM86y6kfjQdqU7xXdGnW1D7ACKgB/s1600/skyline.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GMvKr-wvURU/VyeGLg6OmFI/AAAAAAAAH4I/6UYg-VNhobM86y6kfjQdqU7xXdGnW1D7ACKgB/s320/skyline.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I started playing with using textured papers and stencils to add pattern. I thought this was way more interesting and tried this with some other stencils as well. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aWRAP0hAmnE/VyeGLyKEjZI/AAAAAAAAH4I/RB7K012sroAo32iFsufjqGK-LsfOf5cQQCKgB/s1600/skyline%2Bbw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="189" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aWRAP0hAmnE/VyeGLyKEjZI/AAAAAAAAH4I/RB7K012sroAo32iFsufjqGK-LsfOf5cQQCKgB/s320/skyline%2Bbw.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then I made a lot of prints. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TbuK7qJ1ta0/VyeGK57x4FI/AAAAAAAAH4I/nmDeTTsVHAEtnjXZWFEwfQwc8C_k_DxMgCKgB/s1600/bw1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TbuK7qJ1ta0/VyeGK57x4FI/AAAAAAAAH4I/nmDeTTsVHAEtnjXZWFEwfQwc8C_k_DxMgCKgB/s320/bw1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I basically covered my plate with black paint and pressed textured papers and stencils into the paint (these stencils were not left on the plate, just used to add pattern into the black paint). Then, for the one shown below, I placed three circle stencils on the plate, and pulled a print. Then I removed the circle stencils and pulled a ghost print. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZwqUWyqBj34/VyeGN_wDV9I/AAAAAAAAH4I/NBV-t7NI88Yt7bOyoW5jiLI3IxR067PawCKgB/s1600/bw%2Bcircles3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZwqUWyqBj34/VyeGN_wDV9I/AAAAAAAAH4I/NBV-t7NI88Yt7bOyoW5jiLI3IxR067PawCKgB/s320/bw%2Bcircles3.jpg" width="264" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The connected ovals are a custom handmade stencil. <br />

<br />
I had a great time with these. The last three were actually done on my 11" x 14" gelli plate so they are quite big. I think it is funny that whenever I have a specific idea for my gelli plate session, I often end up someplace else entirely. I am thinking about adding color to these, but haven't made a decision yet.Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-14973038165562136012016-04-25T10:40:00.002-05:002016-04-25T10:40:33.423-05:00Fabric tree collagesA while ago I had made a layered piece with gelli printed interfacing as a top layer, which I then melted portions away. You can see that post <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2014/09/art-with-gelli-prints-on-deli-paper-and.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I thought I would try this with a tree image I have been working on, and use free-motion stitching instead of hand embroidery. Here you can see the different components. I have a painted canvas for the background. The leaf canopy and tree were fabrics I painted in a Jason Pollen workshop a few weeks ago. The interfacing layer is a gelli print I made a while ago. I used fusible web to iron down the yellow tree canopy fabric. I won't iron down the tree trunk until I have finished with the interfacing layer. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0ig_ppaBzOI/VxUrMzOnsiI/AAAAAAAAH1U/TN2kq1Crl5EatFUyMF-W5igp9dqJiCQ3gCKgB/s1600/Yel1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0ig_ppaBzOI/VxUrMzOnsiI/AAAAAAAAH1U/TN2kq1Crl5EatFUyMF-W5igp9dqJiCQ3gCKgB/s400/Yel1.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
When I put the interfacing over the yellow fabric, I am pretty sad that my painted fabric is pretty much hidden. Next time I would probably just grab a fabric from my stash and not use something I hand painted. I then took this "sandwich" to my sewing machine and free-motion stitched on it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CQOlXt1LJa0/VxUrNRTTD_I/AAAAAAAAH1U/F7FuOwh52MM-hLinPRUr4ge1gGyBKlwPgCKgB/s1600/yel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CQOlXt1LJa0/VxUrNRTTD_I/AAAAAAAAH1U/F7FuOwh52MM-hLinPRUr4ge1gGyBKlwPgCKgB/s400/yel2.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
What I learned as I went along:<br />
<ol>
<li>The interfacing melts a lot better if the free-motion stitching is fairly open. Tight stitching really prevents it from melting.</li>
<li>If I cut slits in the interfacing where I want it to melt away, it does help. I just used a seam ripper. I wanted to make sure it melted where I have sky openings in the tree canopy.</li>
<li>Sew right along the outside edge if you don't want the background fabric visible around all the edges. </li>
<li>Use lightweight interfacing. The heavy stuff does not like to melt and is some places the edges looked light brown/slightly toasted. </li>
</ol>
Remember to always work in a well-ventilated area and wear a mask to block any fumes.<br />
<br />
As you can see I played tree trunk swap and decided to use this magenta/purple one instead of the red one shown in the previous picture, since the gelli-printed interfacing had a touch of purple.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nibB5EqufD8/VxUrQakpPfI/AAAAAAAAH1U/RGvEJhP1msAJnnaCWsp4c7Ce5gpXI8UNwCKgB/s1600/purple%2Bother.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nibB5EqufD8/VxUrQakpPfI/AAAAAAAAH1U/RGvEJhP1msAJnnaCWsp4c7Ce5gpXI8UNwCKgB/s400/purple%2Bother.jpg" width="301" /></a></div>
<br />
And here are a bunch more. This one has the heavy interfacing. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Envz0hW3rEU/VxUrOPsaibI/AAAAAAAAH1U/bdJzQ_QoR5gETH6d-aVU8SwfJ98-Td_agCKgB/s1600/yel3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Envz0hW3rEU/VxUrOPsaibI/AAAAAAAAH1U/bdJzQ_QoR5gETH6d-aVU8SwfJ98-Td_agCKgB/s400/yel3.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l1jsfxp4MGo/VxUrP1uhAUI/AAAAAAAAH1U/h5bb_DFn10UeueKDnyIEqpfyYz30KdzGgCKgB/s1600/turq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l1jsfxp4MGo/VxUrP1uhAUI/AAAAAAAAH1U/h5bb_DFn10UeueKDnyIEqpfyYz30KdzGgCKgB/s400/turq.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tVO-UlbSGns/VxUrOkTa9LI/AAAAAAAAH1U/5Xr_nBkdnFQn9Uu0yQu8BHc4CazU5vOeQCKgB/s1600/red2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tVO-UlbSGns/VxUrOkTa9LI/AAAAAAAAH1U/5Xr_nBkdnFQn9Uu0yQu8BHc4CazU5vOeQCKgB/s400/red2.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I did free-motion stitch around the trees and branches after I ironed the tree trucks down. I really like the following two where I used colorful thread for this, instead of dark gray.<br />
<br />
This one was the first one I stitched the interfacing on. I did the
stitching very close together, so the interfacing did not melt much. <br />

I was thrilled that an internationally known instructor came to Nebraska. I was also thrilled that my sister decided to visit and attend some of the classes as well.<br />

There was an article in the local paper about Finnabair's visit and classes, here is a <a href="http://link./"></a><a href="http://columbustelegram.com/news/local/international-art-instructor-visits-columbus/article_738da0a3-45c3-50ff-b4c5-113ad24495ea.html" target="_blank">link. </a>I was in the background of the photo they included in the article. Art is very serious...<br />

I did not include any progress photos of these pieces, since the techniques are Finnabair's and teaching them is how she makes a living. I highly recommend taking a class from her, she really keeps everyone on track so you can finish the projects in class.<br />

I used one of those fabrics to make a hand sculpture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RPu32x-poVk/VwbDPTnvgTI/AAAAAAAAHz4/AcgHEZg5HRcH6a0MINNK_ITnLXiMiXdmg/s1600/nail%2Bhand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RPu32x-poVk/VwbDPTnvgTI/AAAAAAAAHz4/AcgHEZg5HRcH6a0MINNK_ITnLXiMiXdmg/s640/nail%2Bhand.jpg" width="352" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love how it turned out, but all the sewing had to be done by hand, so it was very time-consuming. I had glued the nails to the fabric, thinking my sewing machine foot would be able to somehow sew over them, and it just did not turn out the way. If I make another one similar to this, I would sew the hand first and leave openings for the nails to be inserted through.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I am working on a series of hand sculptures to include in the Summer Art Market in Denver in June, so I will be posting some others in the future!Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-64579377128650760952016-03-07T14:48:00.004-06:002016-03-07T14:48:48.029-06:00Fabric stamped with washers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I wanted to make some fabric with circle designs, but did not want to use stencils.<br />
<br />
I decided to create my own stamps using washers and corks. I glued the washer to the cork with E6000, so it would be easier to stamp with it. I made two different sizes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6kPSKx2drHA/Vt2--3g79GI/AAAAAAAAHxg/dmYM6Fd9nBQ/s1600/washer%2Bstamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6kPSKx2drHA/Vt2--3g79GI/AAAAAAAAHxg/dmYM6Fd9nBQ/s320/washer%2Bstamp.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the smaller "stamp". I plan to make one of my hand sculptures out of this one. I used my gelli plate as a palette to put my paint on and spread it out with a brayer. Then I stamped into the paint, then on the fabric. I was using a Cotton Twill, and next time I will used a standard cotton, as the texture of the twill weave did affect the stamping. I was going for a grungy imperfect look so I was happy with the results. This one was with black and brown paints, although it is more black than brown.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Wz7T4YGdtk/Vt2-_l66smI/AAAAAAAAHxk/N2aJ73aaC8o/s1600/small%2Bcircles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Wz7T4YGdtk/Vt2-_l66smI/AAAAAAAAHxk/N2aJ73aaC8o/s320/small%2Bcircles.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the larger washer stamp. It is probably 2" in diameter. I used red, yellow, a couple blues, and a brown paint to stamp these. This picture shows it laying across and hanging down from my dining table. It's a fairly large piece of fabric and was made for a specific project (still in it's early stages).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HfVoDaDPDcM/Vt2--fXFf3I/AAAAAAAAHx0/R40i-_B3BeA/s1600/circle%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HfVoDaDPDcM/Vt2--fXFf3I/AAAAAAAAHx0/R40i-_B3BeA/s320/circle%2B1.jpg" width="228" /></a></div>
And a close up. You can see the color variations and texture. It looks a bit rough up-close, but I like it that way. And from far away, it is uber-fantastic and exactly what I wanted.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had been struggling with how to accomplish the art I wanted to make, using a hand shape as the focus. I was thinking I would do some on fabric and some of paper, but I wanted them to be at least slightly three dimensional. First I though I would make a hand outline out of metal wire and then attach the fabric or paper to it. My first wire hand shape was too stiff and wouldn't make the curves correctly. The 2nd one was too flimsy and would not hold it's shape. I did try try cutting a hand shape out of matboard. It was tough on my hands and it took a long time to cut just one. I felt very stuck for weeks and then had this hand-smack-forehead moment, when I figured out that I could make it even more three dimensional if I did it the same way I made my cat sculpture.<br />
<br />
Here is my cat sculpture. I made it a few years ago and had planned to make more, but then moved on to other projects. (I just realized I never posted this on my blog previously. I was going to submit it to a craft magazine, but never did).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XX-IUanyuRA/VtSaw82UBMI/AAAAAAAAHw8/z-H9aP3pBvY/s1600/Cat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XX-IUanyuRA/VtSaw82UBMI/AAAAAAAAHw8/z-H9aP3pBvY/s400/Cat.jpg" width="228" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JdVzjXj-OU8/VtSaxL4LIxI/AAAAAAAAHxA/_DIHFOAOsSc/s1600/Cat%2Bback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JdVzjXj-OU8/VtSaxL4LIxI/AAAAAAAAHxA/_DIHFOAOsSc/s400/Cat%2Bback.jpg" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I only wanted a basic hand shape so it could be two pieces of fabric. I had a hand shape I had been using for the wire, so I just used that for my first try. And here is the lovely claw hand that is my first attempt. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EY3loh74mUw/VtSav2KOGgI/AAAAAAAAHww/U5QtgrkwO3A/s1600/claw%2Bhand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EY3loh74mUw/VtSav2KOGgI/AAAAAAAAHww/U5QtgrkwO3A/s320/claw%2Bhand.jpg" width="175" /></a></div>
<br />
Surprisingly, attempt two was almost perfect. I decided I didn't like the machine stitching to make the fingers, so I did hand stitching for my new ones. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e-W4qg5_R9s/VtSawMCcaLI/AAAAAAAAHw0/Toe9w14kEpc/s1600/hand%252C%2Bmachine%2Bfingers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e-W4qg5_R9s/VtSawMCcaLI/AAAAAAAAHw0/Toe9w14kEpc/s320/hand%252C%2Bmachine%2Bfingers.jpg" width="159" /></a></div>
<br />
I meant to take a picture of these final ones when they were still white, but I forgot. So here is an unfinished one in blue, just to show the shape. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1YRbOtbJXf8/VtSawXszWNI/AAAAAAAAHw4/uICHQOy5ubE/s1600/turq%2Bhand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1YRbOtbJXf8/VtSawXszWNI/AAAAAAAAHw4/uICHQOy5ubE/s320/turq%2Bhand.jpg" width="155" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the first finished piece. I have ideas for a bunch of these, including some with free-motion stitching, some with 3D items attached. I plan to make some stamped fabrics, and use some hand-dyed fabrics, some felt, etc for some of the others as well. The hand shape turned out very nice, although there are a few things I will tweak in the next set.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I did not iron these prior to photographing them.<br />
<br />
This was folded in half and put on a PVC pole and scrunched, like for shibori. Then I laid the pipe flat on my rack, for snow, then sprinkled powdered Procion dye. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D4SvH_gv4p0/Vstu-Q-l-oI/AAAAAAAAHv4/L0AvHosGGKA/s1600/snow%2Bdye1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D4SvH_gv4p0/Vstu-Q-l-oI/AAAAAAAAHv4/L0AvHosGGKA/s320/snow%2Bdye1.jpg" width="227" /></a></div>
<br />
I used hotel key cards clamped to either side of a folded piece of fabric. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oSe0yI681ik/Vstu-6J6w2I/AAAAAAAAHv8/ExKcdMFwhYA/s1600/snow%2Bdye2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="120" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oSe0yI681ik/Vstu-6J6w2I/AAAAAAAAHv8/ExKcdMFwhYA/s320/snow%2Bdye2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used empty yogurt cups and rubberbanded the fabric on them. I was hoping the circles would be more distinct. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ebyTYt_ymnc/Vstu_9Co8-I/AAAAAAAAHwE/65j6hD1CcfA/s1600/snow%2Bdye4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ebyTYt_ymnc/Vstu_9Co8-I/AAAAAAAAHwE/65j6hD1CcfA/s320/snow%2Bdye4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The rest were just scrunched and layered "parfait" style with snow and powdered dyes in big buckets. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Fk4C72yUAo/Vstu_SGfI_I/AAAAAAAAHwA/_BHDQkaZxRM/s1600/snow%2Bdye3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Fk4C72yUAo/Vstu_SGfI_I/AAAAAAAAHwA/_BHDQkaZxRM/s320/snow%2Bdye3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--KNK4ZuHQ-c/VstvAuHWyrI/AAAAAAAAHwI/KqI8aPOcxqQ/s1600/snow%2Bdye5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--KNK4ZuHQ-c/VstvAuHWyrI/AAAAAAAAHwI/KqI8aPOcxqQ/s320/snow%2Bdye5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Jabdyq_Goz0/VstvAym_uOI/AAAAAAAAHwM/9JJ0TVqT0CQ/s1600/snow%2Bdye6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Jabdyq_Goz0/VstvAym_uOI/AAAAAAAAHwM/9JJ0TVqT0CQ/s320/snow%2Bdye6.jpg" width="301" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cxC00j2w7BY/VstvBhEDpCI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/KYbvAYvHWGg/s1600/snow%2Bdye7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cxC00j2w7BY/VstvBhEDpCI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/KYbvAYvHWGg/s320/snow%2Bdye7.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
There were quite a few more small ones. I bought a bunch of linen and cotton napkins at the thrift store a while ago, so threw a bunch of them in as well.<br />
<br />
I am working on some new mixed media pieces and hope to have at least one finished so I can post pictures next week.Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-15822861555110602622016-01-22T14:05:00.000-06:002016-01-22T14:05:41.730-06:00Gelli print collaged deer headI bought a paper mache deer head at Hobby Lobby in the spring. I have a farm/western themed bathroom and thought it would be fun. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X8TAcRhufag/VqKKAM_pS9I/AAAAAAAAHt4/sN5mCbfp0fM/s1600/deer%2Bhead.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X8TAcRhufag/VqKKAM_pS9I/AAAAAAAAHt4/sN5mCbfp0fM/s320/deer%2Bhead.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to collage gelli prints on it, because I have a ton of gelli prints. I gessoed it first, before collaging, since many of my prints are on translucent deli paper. I had no idea that collaging this would take so long. I got about halfway done back in May, then it got shoved in the closet for a while. I pulled it out a few weeks ago and got it finished. <br />

I made a bunch of colored gelli prints for a project on Sunday, and yesterday I did a bunch of new prints that are black and white.<br />
<br />
I got an instructional art DVD of Anne Bagby's, the link to it is <a href="http://ccpvideos.com/products/ahb1d" target="_blank">here</a>, and the first step is to make black and white patterned papers. Anne uses painted backgrounds, stamps, and stencils. I decided to use my gelli plate since it is so fast to make multiple prints. <br />

I cannot tell you how many unfinished projects I have, let's hope neither of these projects end up in the permanent UFO pile! Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-54949178699810652132015-12-07T12:12:00.001-06:002015-12-07T12:14:59.335-06:00Gelli printing playI have a project in mind that includes gelli prints, so I made some this weekend specifically for this project. I hope to have some finished pieces to show next week, if this works like I want it to.<br />
<br />
These prints are on deli paper or tissue paper. The tissue paper I used was meant to be applied to walls to give a textured wrinkled look to them (which I bought cheap at the thrift store, it's probably from decades ago). It seems a bit more sturdy than the average tissue paper, I didn't have a single tear.<br />
<br />
I bought quite a few new stencils over Thanksgiving weekend, as I was visiting family in Greensboro, NC and <a href="http://www.bettyscreativestudio.com/" target="_blank">Betty's</a> has a great selection. There is a severe lack of cool art and craft supply stores in the vicinity of Kearney, so I go a bit overboard when I travel. I really like the giant flower stencil (left and right in the 2nd row), and it was on clearance for $3.50. I wasn't too crazy about it when I bought it, but I love how it prints.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L1Rxq441O8o/VmXDMCFEyMI/AAAAAAAAHrY/4JfWtWdyOHU/s1600/paper%2Bgelli.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L1Rxq441O8o/VmXDMCFEyMI/AAAAAAAAHrY/4JfWtWdyOHU/s320/paper%2Bgelli.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
More prints on deli and tissue paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OYgNcdbfLZw/VmXDMu8_BkI/AAAAAAAAHrg/NaQJ8lVGF_g/s1600/paper%2Bgelli%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OYgNcdbfLZw/VmXDMu8_BkI/AAAAAAAAHrg/NaQJ8lVGF_g/s320/paper%2Bgelli%2B1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These prints are on interfacing. My plan is to layer some of them, free-motion sew them with cotton thread, then use a heat tool (embossing gun) to burn through some of the layers. The colors are more subtle when printing on the interfacing. I should have probably used more paint. This interfacing is pretty thick and opaque. I really liked the thinner interfacing that I had printed previously, as you could somewhat see the underlayer through it. (That post is <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2014/09/art-with-gelli-prints-on-deli-paper-and.html" target="_blank">here</a>).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I am looking forward to making progress on these and will post next week. I hope everything works out as expected!Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-42807210173246006222015-12-02T15:21:00.000-06:002015-12-02T15:21:07.743-06:00Documented Life Project, The Unplanner 2016, colorful insertsI have signed up each year for Documented Life Project (since it started in 2014), but have not been very good about working on all the prompts. This coming year they are putting more of a focus on the "planner" aspect of it, and I am motivated to keep up with it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5UoyxrBqYTxdcu_7WGn8k1ffuqRqCSQ2Po5dj9oaTrvth8Vog035bEhM1qEJxFXJOAm859LXQD2yN-QFf1Wnf2RBNhNmuoMjpfHYi8pNmweSWVm5XHpke35Ji8Yc9pr_u78-4rT2oCAY/s1600/cut+printouts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5UoyxrBqYTxdcu_7WGn8k1ffuqRqCSQ2Po5dj9oaTrvth8Vog035bEhM1qEJxFXJOAm859LXQD2yN-QFf1Wnf2RBNhNmuoMjpfHYi8pNmweSWVm5XHpke35Ji8Yc9pr_u78-4rT2oCAY/s400/cut+printouts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
They provided some forms we can include in our planners. I wanted mine to be colorful, instead of white, so I used sprays (mainly Glimmer Mists) to color white cardstock and used some stencils and masks to add patterns. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MWKOQ9WMpF4/Vl9WPxzxGBI/AAAAAAAAHqY/5ghnhSkw6KQ/s1600/painted%2Bpapers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MWKOQ9WMpF4/Vl9WPxzxGBI/AAAAAAAAHqY/5ghnhSkw6KQ/s400/painted%2Bpapers.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After they were dry, I put them under some weights to flatten them out overnight, then ran them through my inkjet printer. (Please note that my printer is old and has been used to print artsy stuff before, so I wasn't too worried about putting painted papers through it. If you have a lovely nice expensive printer, you may not want to put painted papers through it). Then I used my paper cutter to cut them. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zLKdgmdbphc/Vl9WSCE6bbI/AAAAAAAAHq0/hoggsOlfBFQ/s1600/printouts%2Bstash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zLKdgmdbphc/Vl9WSCE6bbI/AAAAAAAAHq0/hoggsOlfBFQ/s400/printouts%2Bstash.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pf1sZqFVEUw/Vl9WRsbiyHI/AAAAAAAAHqw/niH7gk16l3c/s1600/painted%2Bprintout2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pf1sZqFVEUw/Vl9WRsbiyHI/AAAAAAAAHqw/niH7gk16l3c/s400/painted%2Bprintout2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dpLVo_IcxBY/Vl9WS2n08TI/AAAAAAAAHrA/-oIQqNRJCsA/s1600/fan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dpLVo_IcxBY/Vl9WS2n08TI/AAAAAAAAHrA/-oIQqNRJCsA/s400/fan.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To fit all three inserts on one page, one of them does not have much space for paper-punched holes for the 3 ring binder. I plan to add a washi tape edge for the holes.<br />
<br />
I know that sometimes doing stuff ahead of the start in January may be a bad idea, but it looks like the Art to the 5th sample shows these as white, and I want to start with some happy color!Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-27572490693706511592015-11-23T10:13:00.003-06:002015-11-23T10:18:11.936-06:00Gelatin monoprint workshopA few weeks ago, I did a gelatin printing workshop for Becca and Laura, and wanted to share some photos.<br />
<br />
Here is our work table with lots of paints, papers, stencils, etc.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pjqQeqkuTaw/VkpPB_Sp4OI/AAAAAAAAHpU/KwBURaFfY5Y/s1600/DSC02281.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pjqQeqkuTaw/VkpPB_Sp4OI/AAAAAAAAHpU/KwBURaFfY5Y/s320/DSC02281.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some prints. I believe both of these are Laura's. These have two or three printed layers on them.<br />

<br />
It was a very snowy day, which makes for a great art day, and we had a great time! I am so glad they were able to make it through the snow and play with monoprinting. Thanks Laura and Becca!<br />

<br />
We worked on a painted and collaged piece inspired from a Lynne Perrella class I took many years ago.<br />
<br />
We used four paint colors and photocopied images to create our artwork. We also cut out our images to create a stencil.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here is the group at work.<br />

Diana left before I remembered to take pictures, so her piece is missing from the gallery. (Sad face).<br />

We had a great time, ate Melissa's excellent coconut brownies, and had wonderful artwork in the end.<br />

I have been working on art pieces since my last post, but I feel like I have been spinning my wheels.<br />

I had been thinking of just posting finished work on the blog, but then my posts would definitely be less frequent, so I shelved that idea.<br />
<br />
A while ago, I created some patchwork backgrounds that I planned to paint, <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2015/09/me-and-my-crazy-ideas-white-patchwork.html" target="_blank">see here for the original post</a>. My original thought was to have a dripped paint effect, but decided to do some abstract landscapes on some of them.<br />
<br />
For my first paint layer on two different pieces, I used watered down acrylic paints. When these dried, they dried much lighter and I decided they needed another paint layer. I switched to Setacolor paints because I know how they behave on fabrics and I could get the colors I was looking for.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pOSkNCVCfYM/VjedDf2FsYI/AAAAAAAAHmQ/jydtyebs9LE/s1600/gray.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pOSkNCVCfYM/VjedDf2FsYI/AAAAAAAAHmQ/jydtyebs9LE/s320/gray.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dv5WKCj4tG4/VjebNZzmgjI/AAAAAAAAHl4/ogBVLVKL4ao/s1600/DSC02262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dv5WKCj4tG4/VjebNZzmgjI/AAAAAAAAHl4/ogBVLVKL4ao/s320/DSC02262.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the final piece. I plan to add some stitching and some additional fiber layers to this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-186NuNpnAXs/VjedC4MqPxI/AAAAAAAAHmI/bKd9YPW8aIk/s1600/DSC02277.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-186NuNpnAXs/VjedC4MqPxI/AAAAAAAAHmI/bKd9YPW8aIk/s320/DSC02277.JPG" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
Another piece started with acrylic paints. This is when it was still wet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_2CT0W42s4/VjedEIGRZ8I/AAAAAAAAHmY/9kbYga26nJY/s1600/blue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_2CT0W42s4/VjedEIGRZ8I/AAAAAAAAHmY/9kbYga26nJY/s320/blue.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I did add another coat of Setacolor blue for the sky. I like how the brown migrated in that one strip of fabric above the horizon, as it looks like trees. I plan to add some opaque paints to add a bit more realism.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-keP5yt4V8t0/VjedFA1eAtI/AAAAAAAAHmk/uL4uwputOVc/s1600/trees.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-keP5yt4V8t0/VjedFA1eAtI/AAAAAAAAHmk/uL4uwputOVc/s320/trees.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And the third one. I love how the diagonal piped fabric at the bottom gives the look of a farm field.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QwDWdzEy1B4/VjedEhGgOoI/AAAAAAAAHmg/oDL3cI7gzLA/s1600/yellow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QwDWdzEy1B4/VjedEhGgOoI/AAAAAAAAHmg/oDL3cI7gzLA/s320/yellow.jpg" width="317" /></a></div>
All of these need more work and details, but they are looking good so far.<br />
<br />
I did try dripping paint on another piece, but it looks horrendous. I also worked a bit on the last two patched backgrounds, but I was experimenting and they are pretty awful. I won't be showing them on the blog until they make a turn for the better. I have some more with the background and main body printed, and I just need to do the detail stencil print. <br />
<br />Gingerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14961660311008007215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2934423650551215384.post-45367195569406919482015-10-05T16:56:00.002-05:002015-10-05T16:56:50.397-05:00Stencil making with my ScanNCutI have been doing a lot of gelli printing and was previously designing my own stencils and cutting them out by hand.<br />
<br />
I decided to get a ScanNCut as I wanted my stencil making to be quicker and easier. The best part is, after you save a design, you can cut it again and again, and in different sizes. <br />
<br />
Here is a design I did using the "add shapes" function in word and and copying and pasting the repeated shapes. I know that ScanNCut has their own software or website for making cut files, but I haven't tried it. I stuck with the "animal I know".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Ia5cSC11eU/VhLoTAVuauI/AAAAAAAAHjg/IcjCPTrmlM8/s1600/Diamond%2Bpattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Ia5cSC11eU/VhLoTAVuauI/AAAAAAAAHjg/IcjCPTrmlM8/s320/Diamond%2Bpattern.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is my stencil. You can see I have some "hanging chads" that did not cut out completely, but these were easily cut out with an Exacto knife. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mYfmOmMcDvc/VhLoThLD56I/AAAAAAAAHjo/nXNesmRm7Yc/s1600/diamond%2Bstencil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mYfmOmMcDvc/VhLoThLD56I/AAAAAAAAHjo/nXNesmRm7Yc/s320/diamond%2Bstencil.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to the stencil, I know have all these diamonds I can use as masks. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u3kn05h_N14/VhLoSV3fs5I/AAAAAAAAHjY/ct0uxpZpcHU/s1600/DSC02212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u3kn05h_N14/VhLoSV3fs5I/AAAAAAAAHjY/ct0uxpZpcHU/s320/DSC02212.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This design I also did in Word, using the "insert shapes". These shapes are all just lines that I made a thick point width.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qVq_wTE0uMw/VhLoUfPaXRI/AAAAAAAAHjw/-y45g1gmpSE/s1600/indian.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qVq_wTE0uMw/VhLoUfPaXRI/AAAAAAAAHjw/-y45g1gmpSE/s320/indian.jpg" width="294" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is my stencil. I can't wait to try it out. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0CN6-SaWmHE/VhLoWpgSCuI/AAAAAAAAHj8/2tP8_SladhE/s1600/indian%2Bstencil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0CN6-SaWmHE/VhLoWpgSCuI/AAAAAAAAHj8/2tP8_SladhE/s320/indian%2Bstencil.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
So now we get to the type of stencil I really bought this machine to cut out. This type of detailed stencil would have been time consuming to cut by hand. And if I didn't like it in the end, I would have felt that all that time was wasted. This is my image printed on paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XnmzFIy3r98/VhLoYCNiCpI/AAAAAAAAHkM/6iS-3hus2EY/s1600/chicken%2Bpaper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XnmzFIy3r98/VhLoYCNiCpI/AAAAAAAAHkM/6iS-3hus2EY/s320/chicken%2Bpaper.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
The ScanNCut does not disappoint (matte stencil). I love how much detail I can get with it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PkhJOgj2LTg/VhLoXbNFL8I/AAAAAAAAHkA/YAkETtglRU8/s1600/chicken.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PkhJOgj2LTg/VhLoXbNFL8I/AAAAAAAAHkA/YAkETtglRU8/s320/chicken.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
And I thought I need an egg stencil as well. I just used the pre-programmed egg shape in the machine and added multiples and lined them up. Seriously, this took me 10 minutes to "design" and cut. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DZhiMA8M2h8/VhLoYmavkyI/AAAAAAAAHkQ/3YSd41wRXCY/s1600/eggs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DZhiMA8M2h8/VhLoYmavkyI/AAAAAAAAHkQ/3YSd41wRXCY/s320/eggs.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how much detail I can get with this machine. I will add the following remarks.<br />
<br />
-I like the matte stencil material better than the clear (both are Duralar .005 mil). I also think the matte cuts a bit easier for some reason. <br />
-Using the built-in designs gets a much cleaner cut, especially for round or curved shapes. I did some circles in Word (printed, scanned in and then cut), and they were very jagged around the edges. Any hand drawn patterns are a bit rough around the edges (as in, not a nice smooth straight cut, a bit jagged). The straight lines from the Word documents (printed, then scanned into the machine) were straight and smooth.<br />
-If you draw a small design, but then have it cut big, any unevenness in the drawing will be more obvious in the bigger version. (In other words, it is better to draw big, and cut small, instead of the other way around). <br />
-Sometimes there are cut lines where I don't want them. Usually these can be deleted without affecting the design (before cutting), but sometimes I miss one. I don't realize it until I have cut the stencil. If it is a wide section, I will just use contact paper on both sides of the stencil to re-attach it. Otherwise, I either need to live with it (or cut out a section) or re-scan the picture and pay more attention (zooming in) to all the cut lines.<br />
- I always have some "hanging chads" (except the eggs) which need to be removed with an Exacto knife.<br />
-I do think it's a bit on the pricey side, and it really comes with no
instructions. I watched YouTube videos for a week before I even took it
out of the box. <br />
<br />
Is this machine perfect? No. Does it give me what I want? Yes, most of the time and with a little perseverance. I like the hand-drawn stencil quality I get with my hand-drawn drawings, but am no way a perfectionist anyway. I think it was a good investment for me and I have been using it quite a bit. You can see that post <a href="http://ginger-wilson.blogspot.com/2015/05/leaves-fabric-collage-with-sunprints.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Bqn4AMoqbQ/VUpeuftt18I/AAAAAAAAG0c/DrMBV1AyTo4/s1600/leaves%2Bmounted.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="166" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Bqn4AMoqbQ/VUpeuftt18I/AAAAAAAAG0c/DrMBV1AyTo4/s320/leaves%2Bmounted.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to create a companion piece with more color. I sun printed leaves on two layers of fabric, a polyester sheer (shown here),<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-umgP5yXwF48/VbZsl4LiLNI/AAAAAAAAHTg/pAOCFseiP-Q/s1600/DSC01813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-umgP5yXwF48/VbZsl4LiLNI/AAAAAAAAHTg/pAOCFseiP-Q/s320/DSC01813.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and a heavy cotton canvas (below). As you can see, the paint did not completely cover the canvas. I went in afterwards and covered any white canvas areas with paint. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xEN-5NmwBo4/VbZs7htRyNI/AAAAAAAAHTo/GvrDGH-ft2M/s1600/leaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xEN-5NmwBo4/VbZs7htRyNI/AAAAAAAAHTo/GvrDGH-ft2M/s320/leaves.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When I was testing the sheer over the canvas, the canvas seemed too
bright for the background, so I applied a coat of transparent Cerulean
blue over the entire canvas. The yellow areas became green, and the magenta areas are a dark
blue-purple. I then free motion stitched around the leaf patterns that were printed on the polyester sheer, and cut around the leaves to expose the canvas. I wrapped the fabric around a 15" x 30" canvas and stapled it on the back side.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Detail.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QOXPKNwvdHk/VgAQltWcJDI/AAAAAAAAHiU/VI7LB9IsWps/s1600/leaves%2Bdetail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QOXPKNwvdHk/VgAQltWcJDI/AAAAAAAAHiU/VI7LB9IsWps/s320/leaves%2Bdetail.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love to combine color, pattern, and fabric. <br />
